Have you ever said this? "Oh I just colour in, I can't draw, I'm not an artist."
Well stop it! You are creating something using skill and imagination, that is art. Your picture will not look the same as someone else's as you have chosen the medium you are colouring with, pen, pencil, paint etc. You have decided the colour scheme that expresses the mood you want to create. You have used skill in highlighting and shading. You have made the picture come to life!
Look! Same drawing but different ending point. I didn't draw this image, the lovely Bonnita Doodles did. But I used my creativity to bring it to life, I chose what colours to use, I chose what details to include and I am proud of what I created. This is my artwork even though the image is not mine.
You should be too, proud that is! You are an artist!
As with all skills they take time, patience and help to master. We are all learning and just getting better and better. Even if you are copying someone else's colour scheme and using their pictures as reference and inspiration you are learning, training, practicing, so that one day you will be able to move away from the supports and go your own way - even if if doesn't work (which if often doesn't), but you can still be proud of what you created and learn from it.
I wanted to share with you my first ever drawing I did using Alcohol Inks, I'd had no instruction and just went for it (still felt proud enough to take a picture). Now, three years later after watching many you tube videos and practicing I created the second picture.
So please don't listen to others who say that colouring is for kids and not really art. It is!
Be proud of what you can do and feel excited about what you will be able to do in the future. Just go for it and share what you can do.
You can share your art in the file share when you become a site member for free, or on my facebook page, I would love to see it. If you would like any hints on how to improve I'd also like to help, just post a pic with a message asking for help.
